Saturday started off a golf kinda day again....the guys at the World Golf Hall of Fame. Gracie and I opted out of this one also. There is a guy in a golf cart....of course....who picks you up and gives you a grand tour of the place...There was so much to see and do there, they could have spent all day....
This is Flagler College....but started out as Ponce de Leon Hotel in 1885 which was built by Henry M. Flagler....the hotel and railroad magnate...we see the name Flagler everywhere down here...
George's #1 Golfer....gone way before his time....but never forgotten...
They have a locker full of treasures given by his wife in his memory...
Then it was off to the City of St. Augustine....the oldest city in the USA...
founded September 1565...yeah...that's old...
George on George Street!
There is an old cobblestone walkway that runs down St. George Street into downtown...with alleyways leading off to little Artsy areas and restaurants and cafes...and music everywhere
Most of the concrete walls will be made with shells in them..
Watching salt-water taffy being pulled....it's like watching the ocean....soothes the soul...
And like most of the old towns....beautiful churches...
The woodwork is just amazing...
The Bridge of Lions was built in the mid-1920s
It's just such a beautiful setting....you come across this bridge and right away you are in the middle of the old city...
I Love Love Love the entrance to this store...the smell of the store was heavenly and everything inside was just peaceful....I could have spent an hour in there just looking...and not buying...
As in all the cities here on the east coast....they are old and beautiful...
This is Flagler College....but started out as Ponce de Leon Hotel in 1885 which was built by Henry M. Flagler....the hotel and railroad magnate...we see the name Flagler everywhere down here...
The Hotel is spectacular.....Looks like a really neat place to attend College and live in the dorms...
Oh Maggie...looks like you could have come after all....this cat was in the middle of all the people ....calm as can be...
The place reminds us of New Orleans....but clean and safe...more because of the old structures and the music....almost every bar had someone playing or singing...
The Castillo de San Marcos is the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States.
It was closed by the time we got there...but just seeing the outside was interesting...
We were drawn back to St. George Street...
......... and then the music from this angel just drew us in....Jolie...singer, songwriter and piantist...
They dragged me away from listening to Jolie....to see more of the sights and to find a place for dinner.
This is the Plaza de la Constitucion....the oldest public place in America ....
and also the place that George ran down a couple who let their dog crap in this park and did not clean it up!!!! and they refused to clean it up!!!
This is such a dog friendly city and ignorant people like that ruin it for dogs...sad and frustrating...
After a great dinner we discovered this band in the pub downstairs..there is just so much variety in the music in this city...
It was nice being in the city at night....
This is an outdoor music venue...love the lanterns!
