It's our last day in New York...this will be day 3....and really still so much to see and do...it just takes so long to get around in the traffic....so we had to take the subway today...against my will....we took the subway. As soon as you go down the stairs...it's just hot and smelly and loud...
When we first got on the subway....it wasn't busy...and as we left each stop....just more and more and more people got on! This is not my idea of fun, but if I wanted to see the Sailboat pond in Central Park...this is the only way to do it.
I made it! I hope to never go on another Subway again!
The pay off was this!!
I just love to watch the sailboats here....I guess as a kid I always saw the Pond in Central Park in so many Movies and it just seemed so "New York"... this is what I love to see....
I can't explain it.....there is no rationale....it's just my #1 thing to see in New York.
When you watch these little kids they are so focused and excited about sailing their ships...
Here is one of the buildings that is totally cloaked in netting for construction.
I would think if you are in the business...you will always have a job here. There are hundreds and hundreds of buildings like this.
Hard to tell who is eating more here...the horse or the pigeons...every time the horse moves his head out of the bucket...the birds are in there!
This is the fanciest Food Court we have ever seen!!
OMG all the food looked so good... we opted for some "sweet stuff "
Luckily we were satisfied by our last snack because there
is just so much amazing looking food here....."Death by Food`...
In amongst all the concrete and amazingly tall buildings...there are some beautiful little surprises.
I will never get used to seeing these guys! I know they are here to protect everyone...but it`s still just strange to me...We are also seeing large concrete barriers along the busy streets...to prevent `those people`from driving up on the sidewalks ...
I have seen these flowers around the area before and had no idea what they were.
But turns out they are "Grown Up Flowers".....
So we were trying to get back to a certain area quickly and thought we would take the Hop-on-Hop-off Bus......we saw the bus pull over and the driver let a few people on so we just followed them on....turns out we have no idea what was going on with the bus.....He never stopped at any further stops.....was not following any route that was on brochure....we saw people trying to wave him over to get on......he didn't stop...he was a very aggressive driver...ran several red lights...and then all of a sudden ...he pulled over ...and started taking people again....and didn't even question why we were on the bus? weird...but the fastest trip we have had yet which was awesome.
It is so gridlock here that even the emergency vehicles go nowhere...it`s freaking crazy. We sat here for probably 5 minutes....gridlock...
It was just getting so busy...we thought of doing another bus tour but with it being rush hour...it was just too much...there were busses and cars and taxis....there were probably 20 tour buses lined up....it was madness everywhere....we finally got to the water...and it was like...aaahhhhh....the noise level just dropped and so did my blood pressure...
Where there are boats....the boys will be there...
We didn`t take a boat out to the Statue of Liberty like the 5000 other tourists....again the line-up was RIDICULOUS and besides...this is close enough for us. We saw her everyday to and from the city...
We had heard the weather was going to change...the wind picked up so quickly and with that brought out all the sailboats...this is such a busy waterway I have no idea how 'Sully' Sullenberger safely landed the passenger plane in here....It is so so busy all the time...there are so many commuter ferries here it`s just amazing!! I love love love being able to take a 4 -5 minute ferry ride to get from the craziness of NY to the quietness of Jersey City!!
It wasn`t long before the tops of these skyscrapers just disappeared...
Good night New York and Jersey City....not sure when we will return....there is so so much we did not see but I don`t think you can ever see it all here.....we got a good feel of the city...
Some people just made it look so easy...so romantic...so NY...they strolled by with their chic casual dress....calm...relaxed...strolling home from work or who knows where...I call them the `beautiful people of NY`....it`s like they were walking in an enchanted forest...but it was really the crazy streets of New York...horns blaring....traffic a mess...restaurants a buzz...
Good night New York.....good night...
