We just cannot get up early anymore...8:00 seems to be the going time...not sure what is going to happen in a few months when I have to get up at 6:00 a.m......haven't seen 6:00 a.m. in almost 3 weeks.!!
Started as a cloudy day but the Weather Network said it was going to be nice, so we set off on our bikes for the 10 km ride into downtown San Antonio Texas. You can ride the Riverwalk from the RV park either 9 miles away from town or the 6 or so miles into town and beyond and to the River Walk and the Alamo...Beautiful pathway...wide...slightly hilly but really a nice ride...
We spotted lots of Gypsy Geese and their babies.
And this freaking cool snake crossing the river...we have no idea what type of snake it was....but was pretty neat seeing it swim right in front of us.
It was a really nice ride into town.. Hard to believe we are camped only about 4 miles from downtown San Antonio!!!
So far what we have seen of the city has been amazing! There is a great bike path into town and then I think you just need to know what you are doing to get around town from there. Didn't really have many issues...the area that we were in seemed quiet and easy to get around even though it was right in town.
It's really nice that many of the historical sights are within biking distance to downtown. Road by the Alamo and took a wander through.

The Torch of Friendship is a monument which represents the cultural sharing between Mexico and San Antonio. It was made by Sebastian, a Mexican famous sculptor, and was offered as a gift to the city.
One level below the city is the famous Riverwalk...it's lined with Restaurants and shops...we will make it down there tomorrow....
On the ride back home we came across the "King Edward District" of historic homes. It was settled in the 1840's by so many Germans that it was called "Sauerkraut Bend" by the rest of San Antonio. There are so many beautiful old homes....
Back on the bike path on our way home....lots of places to see along the way.
Happened upon Mission Concepcion on the path...Interesting thing... there were two ladies....on opposite sides of the Mission...each painting their own version of the Mission....George got close enough to see their paintings...he said they were totally opposite....the older lady on the left was painting it as "her eyes would see" in the shades of beige.... and the lady on the right....was painting it as "her eyes would see" in bright beautiful colours....
We were only going to stay for 2 nights here in San Antonio....but not quite ready to leave....extended one more night....enjoyed a few beers by the pool.....nice end to our day....

they all had mud on their backs...
so I suppose they cool themselves that way...

Walter Whall proved everyone wrong by moving a 40 year old Oak Tree into this location at the Alamo in 1912...it's now thought to be almost 145 years old...and doing Great!!
