Time to leave....considered staying one more day as we missed so much in Galveston but hoped to be able to check some things out with the RV's on our way to the Ferry.

We pulled over in what looked like a safe place...right in the middle of the Historic Buildings....Joe noticed the sign right away that said "Park at your own Risk"....and he pointed out the shady people...not people in the shade....but the couple who were very interested in the "gold mine" that had just landed in their laps!!!!

Time for a few quick pics and back on the road .....another time Galveston....another time....

Boarded the free Galveston - Port Bolivar Ferry to head east to finally get ourselves out of Texas. Not that we didn't love Texas....but it is BIG!!!

Aren't these the most Distinguished looking gulls you have ever seen!!!

Always nice to be on the water....a totally different view than from the roadway...

A quick 20 minute free Ferryride...and back on the road....this time just a small spit of land....many times you can see water on both sides of the road...some ocean...some intercoastal waterway...

The Pelican Gang!!!
Love love love Pelicans!!! they are soooo much fun to watch..
Love it when they dive-bomb!!!

Some of these beach homes are so high off the ground it's crazy.

This is the first of several bridges we would cross today that seem to just pop up out of nowhere and go straight up over the waterway...

This inter-coastal waterway just seems like the water is higher than the shores and even the road...like it will spill its banks anytime.

and another bridge....

and more refineries...

and another bridge....

and yes....refinery....

it seems to be bridge....refinery...bridge....refinery....and so on and so on...

Finally left Texas and made it to Louisiana....NEVER thought we would get out of Texas!!!

Reached the ocean again....but the water....is still just Brown!! Stopped by the side of the road for a quick break...great place to beachcombe....there was so much stuff washed up...shells...trash.....shells...trash...You could tell the shore here really takes a beating. They actually dropped piles of rocks all along in the water as a bit of a breaker. But seeing the ocean...even if it's not blue and the sand is not white...makes me yearn for Florida!!

and Gracie....loved beachcombing also...man that nose of hers...she should have been a Drug-sniffing dog!

And back to the homes either being built on stilts or else they have raised the land in a small area and built on top of that. Even the schools are built the same.

Now all along the way there are these birds...I think the white ones are called White Ibis but then I finally saw the pink ones...called The Roseate Spoonbill. I was so excited and tried to get a pic from the moving truck...so if you look really closely...on the far right...that's all I got! But really...It's a pink one!!

Decided to stay the night at this little place in Abbeville, Louisiana called "Betty's RV Park" and her tag line is "Get Caught up in Betty's Web" and it is true.

The guys went up to see if she had any spots...there are only 17 in the park and it looked pretty full...so in they go....and quite some time later they come out laughing and smiling and George tells me our spot is almost right where we are parked...just a bit over to the side...I am looking thinking....those are not RV spots...those are curb-side parking...They got "Caught in Betty's Web" ...just like that....and very shortly after...I got caught also.

All the gardens are filled with Mardi Gras beads.

She has an artist friend...who I think started out as a one-night RV stay and she got caught....and now she comes and paints these for Betty...this one is of her childhood...when her father was a trapper .....very cool. There was something in every square inch of the place..

She is single...her son lives next door...she is one of the most social people I have met....she's so cute....

Betty's RV park language.....Tank Up is going to get a drink....Tank down....bathroom time!

Is that better Cal???

  1. Much better... although I haven't seen any bikinis yet. But I am grateful that there wasn't a picture of George and Joe wearing one... so that's a plus. You're probably just waiting to get to Florida and get on a good beach, right. It is another glorious day, but the flooding and road washouts due to the snow melt is huge. Roads in Oliver are like little rivers, with 140 homes on evacuation alert. Provincial Firefighters are all already sandbagging from Kelowna to Osooyos. And that is with Okanagan Lake 2 metres lower than it was last year at this time.
That's enough of old home news, you guys enjoy your adventure, safe travels and hopefully sunny skies.
And again, better... much better. Good job Linda.
