Left Bisbee today...pretty uneventful scenery ....apart from all the Border Patrol...they were everywhere!!! We saw vehicles like this atop hills....saw Border Patrol on Horseback....ATV....almost every vehicle that went by us was Border Patrol. We even saw one guy who was driving along the side road looking down as the gravel...tracks??
The scenery was very calming....nothing changed too drastically....we had many hours to talk about Trump and his Wall...how many Mexicans have walked these miles of desert to the Promise Land...how many made it...how many did not....who was helping them...How many drugs have made it across....many many miles...
Then into Las Cruces, New Mexico on our way to White Sands National Park. Into Chili Pepper land!
We went through many of these check points along the way....anytime we are within about 50 miles of the Mexican Border...
Outside of Las Cruces up and over a large hill....and down into the valley bottom to the White Sands Missile Testing Range. They regularly close the highway off for missile testing...just today it was closed in the morning for testing...Now that would be really cool to see!!
So I have taken George to many "Sand dunes" in our travels....but never to the White Sands National Monument in southern New Mexico ....275 square miles....the Largest gypsum dunefield in the world...and he is sceptical....
It was AMAZING!!!....and it was WHITE!!! It was BIG!!!...it was like "hourglass sand ...is was so so like Florida SAND!!
We had seen these tracks earlier...and we had seen them in other sand dunes....and we had thought they were some really neat lizard or something....WRONG!!! ugly beetle!
After a few miles the pavement ended....and we were driving on compact sand...they use snow plows to clear the roadway!!!
You can even rent/purchase sleds to toboggan down the slopes...no we did not...left that for the kids in the tour bus to spend the next week picking sand out of every orifice in their bodies!
Off to our first official Boondocking night...(Walmart camping is not considered bookdocking)....Joe has done it lots so we felt good about it. About 3 miles outside the dunes, is what is called BLM Land and you can drycamp for free....so that we did. It looks like a lake....but it's not...it's a body of water that was some sort of test site thing???? but there were other's there....and as long as you don't swim in the water....should be okay...and it's free!!

George said earlier....."My truck is white"....the sand is tan.....????? Nope!!! WHITE!!!
Gracie was with us...but after the first walk in the sand....her nose and mouth covered in white sand and the heat....well she waited it out in the RV after that...reluctantly....

And we met "Tim" of Tim and Fin Adventure Travel Bloggers ...a young couple who have travelled the world and are now doing an epic 3 years RV trip. Way too cool!
Dinner....wine....free campsite....Beautiful sunset.....aaahhhh....
