It's a drive day today...a whopping 2 hours! but before we go we have the opportunity to take out some kayaks down "Frog Creek" looking for some gators. There was one seen a few days ago so we think there may be a good chance.
It's a slow moving Creek which actually goes through the brackish water with some winding narrow areas with the spooky moss hanging into the mangroves...
It was really cool to see the alligators last week....along the roadway...while I was sitting in a nice big truck....now we will be in kayaks...little kayaks...
All along the way we are hearing splashes and seeing ripples but not seeing any gators...George and Joe and excited and searching...I just have my paddles high enough out of the water that nobody takes my arms off!!
Flowers...birds...fish....no gators...
I was freaking scared because this was no baby!!! He would have been about 6 feet long!! And the area that I saw him in was narrow.....and we had no choice but to kayak into where we saw him. The word is they want to avoid people so lucky for me we never saw him again.

We decide we better turn around and start heading back for the big move....
And what do I spot out of the corner of my eye!!! a baby gator...
about 1 1/2 to 2 feet long...lurking in the shallow water....
And the splash after he realized we were getting to close!!!
Now...we think we are gator experts and we are on the hunt....
exciting...scary....
With George in front he spied one much larger than my baby gator...
his head was a good foot or so long...and we could see the gator marks on the creek bank...
which were not there before because we had been searching....
Then in the distance......
I was looking at this cranky old log in the water...
thinking it was interesting....
Holy !&^%$.... If I didn't see one big gator leave the creek bank and swim half-way into the creek under the log before turning back to the bank when he saw us approaching!!!I was freaking scared because this was no baby!!! He would have been about 6 feet long!! And the area that I saw him in was narrow.....and we had no choice but to kayak into where we saw him. That was our gator experience for the day!
Off to our next stop in Fort Meyers...
As my old sub-foreman used to say..."pretty hard to scare a terrified person". You guys did an awesome job blowing up your inflatable kayak, it looks hard as a rock. And also, I don't know if wearing a life jacket is going to help protect you from being eaten by an alligator.
ReplyDeleteNot inflatable!!! we left that one at home...long story....but I was hoping the life jacket was extra padding and with my arms high in the air...thought i would be safe :)
